Esther 1:1–9
Settle into a sheltered palace garden at Susa, the Persian setting of Esther. Instrumental evening music accompanies the opening passage of her story.
Stone columns frame a planted courtyard, with patterned paving, pale and blue hangings, and richly furnished seating. Water and greenery soften the view. Charlie rests beneath the nearby couch, a small companion in the shaded foreground.
Esther 1 opens in the royal citadel of Susa during the reign of Ahasuerus, commonly identified as Xerxes I. Its garden banquet introduces the wealth and power of the Persian court—the world in which Esther's story unfolds.
The Cultural Backgrounds Study Bible explains that Persian royal gardens offered relief from heat while displaying wealth and carefully managed nature. Archaeological comparisons help us imagine such a setting, but the particular garden at Susa has not survived. Esther itself supplies the hangings, columns, luxurious couches, costly pavement and varied drinking vessels.
This is an imaginative quiet viewpoint within that story-world. The garden layout, planting, lighting and individual furnishings are a reconstruction, not a recovered view of the actual banquet. Charlie is our recurring creative guest.
Three hours of instrumental evening listening. Eight distinct Suno recordings form a roughly 45-minute suite, with gentle transitions; the suite repeats independently of the short animated scene. Newly composed harp, plucked-string and soft flute colors support a quiet end to the day. No spoken narration or intentionally included vocals.
