John 21:1–14

Begin the day beside the Sea of Galilee. A quiet fishing shore, open water and John 21:1–14 accompany instrumental music for morning prayer and reflection.

The Scene

Settle beneath a simple shore shelter, with a woven mat, clay vessels and fishing gear nearby. Early light reaches across the lake toward the surrounding hills. A small wooden boat rests close to shore; bread and a modest charcoal cooking fire recall the breakfast in John's account. Charlie sleeps beside the sheltered seat.

Cultural Significance

John 21 brings the risen Jesus into the disciples' familiar working world. After an unsuccessful night of fishing, they receive an abundant catch and share the breakfast he provides. The scene's focus is this meeting of ordinary work, recognition and hospitality.

The Cultural Backgrounds Study Bible explains the importance of fishing around the lake, nighttime working practices and nets made from plant fibers. These details guide the modest boat and shore equipment. The particular shelter, shoreline, belongings and Charlie are artistic additions; this is not an identified site of the breakfast or an exact reconstruction of the disciples' boat.
